>> i'm tori clark. it's tuesday, september 4th. a story we've been following since 4:30 this morning. a potential leak at a pool company on portal. that's where alex savidge is live with why this all turned out to be a false alarm. >> there was no chemical leak inside the company. everything started in the building that's just up from the north side. this has now been declared safe. the scene is clear as can you see. but you may be able to hear a chemical alarm is still going off here. that's the alarm that triggered a response. they came out to investigate a possible colleen spill. the first police officer to arrive thought he smelled

chlorine in the air. the investigators checked out out the areas and used a oxygen meter but they did not find any leaks. >> they were unable to detect any presence of chlorine escaping the containment system. so as it sits right now, there may be an issue were the secondary system. >> reporter: while the investigation was unfolding some of the smaller roads were shut down. but there were no evacuation orders issued. hazardous materials teams will remain here and they will try to speak to the person when he arrives here at the pool

company. alex savidge, kut ut -- ktvu channel 2 news. an oakland firefighter is in the hospital after battling an early-morning fire. it happened on 66th and mack care ther around 3:30 this morning -- macarthur around 3:30 this morning. when they arrived, a carport was up in flames. firefighters say it may have started inside a wall. police are investigating after a man was stabbed in the leg in downtown san francisco. it happened just before 7:30 on 6th and market. the 24-year-old man was you ared to the hospital -- was rushed to the hospital. his injuries are not considered life-threatening. it's been a week since the family of a missing woman last saw her. lorraine blanco has been on this story since 4:30 this

morning and is here to tell us more. >> reporter: police say margie has the mental capacity of a 12- year-old and that's why her family is so concerned. they say she can't take care of herself. this is margie. she was last seen in antioch where her family lives last tuesday. her sister says she likes to wear overalls, a yes yellow shirt, what you see there. her due date is just 11 days away. she was released from a martinez hospital last week. markgy has gone missing before. her family says she likes to hang out at the tenderloin area and they say she likes to hang out at glide memorial. if you have any information that could help her family locate her, call police. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:05.

the democratic national convention officially kicks off today. coming up at 7:15, we'll have a live report. meanwhile, republican presidential nominee, mitt romney taking some time off to prepare for debates this month with president obama. he will take part in mock doe baits. the first debate scheduled for october 3rd in denver of the and there will be a total of three debate -- in denver, and there will be a total of three debates. drivers use their personal cars and would-be passengers await for rides through apps.

sheriff deputies are looking for suspects in a homicide right near hayward. it happened last night outside apartments at 482 bartlett. that's where janine de la vega is. >> reporter: within the last five minutes, a bun everyone of sheriff -- bunch of sheriff deputies cars just pulled up to do more investigating around apartment number 3. now, the woman who lives there, i just spoke to her and she tell piece the victim is the best friend

caught. we were told by the woman who lives in the apartment number 3 that the victim is not part of a gang. we are still waiting to talk to a media spokesperson from the sheriff's department and we're hoping to get more information. you will hear more from somebody who knew the victim coming up at 8:30. reporting live from hayward, back to you. >> thank you. 7:31. a san jose family's labor day vacation came to an abrupt end. they were injured in a jet ski accident. they say a mom and dad were on jet skis they wented, each with a young child behind them. the mother's jet ski cross -- crossed this front of the father's. >> they were both doing around 30 miles ahour.

so they were -- miles an hour. so they were moving right along -- moving right along. >> the children's injuries are not life-threatening and they are expected to survive. city college is at risk of being shut down and losing its accreditation. many in the communery are spotting proposition a. it's a parcel tax to revent future cuts which has already sewn more than $53 million in cuts over the last year -- over the last three years. there was an audit and it found out that several problems with the way the college reported salaries used to calculate

pensions. pension officials want ten administrators removed from the system including three who have already retired. 7:33. new this horning, a grass fire created a distraction in livermore early this morning. the fire started around 4:45 in the altamont pass fire area. the fire burned about three ayers before it was put -- acres before it was put out. firefighters are working to gain control of a fire burning in the angeles national forest. it's the williams foyer and bob des can tro is live with why it -- bob decastro is live with why it may take a week to contain this fire. >> reporter: good morning.

the strike team leaders have gotten their orders and they are going back to the front lines. we have about 800 firefighters fighting this fire. they are telling us, it will be at least a week before before they can get the -- before they can get the fire -- can get the fire under control. they need to climb the rugged terrain. some of the air assets that they have brought are all too important. a dc-10 made drops, 11 air tankers and helicopters fighting this fight and dropping phos-chek. this is an area that's a big recreational area. so over the weekend we're being told some 10,000 people had to be evacuated from some mobile homes and cabins.

those also had to be evacuated. about 25 people who live up there decided they wanted to stay and protect their homes. but the good news, no structures have been burned. you talk about those injuries, none of them have been serious. firefighters telling us it will be at least until next thursday before they can get the upper hand on this fire. 7:35. doctors in san jose say a firefighter who had a heart attack is slowly recovering. he had the heart attack while suffering -- while fighting that fire. we're told he's moving but so far he's not been speaking yet. a key road in larkspur will be closed for at least two

welcome back. i'm dave clark. there was aner i-morning alert this cotati at a pool company. alex savidge has been on this story all morning long. it's a false alarm? >> reporter: it appears to be that. the investigator said he's taken a look at the containers.

he says there doesn't appear to be any leaks. this storage area has two large 20-gallon containers that hold a tank. now, the alarm will go off with sense of a leak. that alarm wint off and that triggered a response from the sonoma county hazmat haz artous materials teams. hazardous materials team. crew did not find chemicals leaking, something the captain says could be a potentially dangerous scenario. >> if you had a leak of the chlorine and the muric acid, it could be hazardous to people's health, irritant -- it could be

an irritant to skin, it could actually cause some burn. >> reporter: now, this all unfolded in a very industrial area of cotati. a hazardous material inspector was out here and he did speak with the owner of this pool company and the owner will have to try to figure out why that chemical alarm malfunctioned. and by the way, the captain i talked with also told me the owner of the pool company may have to the bill for the response this morning. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. the search is on for a 31- year-old antioch woman missing since tuesday. there's extra concern because she's not only mentally disabled, she's also nine months

pregnant. lorraine blanco has more. >> reporter: good morning. she's pregnant, she's mentally disabled and she's missing. this is a picture her family wants you to see. now, 31-year-old margie cabrera lives in antioch -- her family lives with her. last tuesday she went missing. she was released from a hospital in martinez. the woman's family does not know why she disappeared. her sister says she likes to wear overalls and a yellow shirt. back out here live, her family says she likes to hang out here in the city's tenderloin area. we received a trip from one of our viewers. if you have any information that could help her family locate her, call police.

back to you. 8:0 4. san francisco police investigating the stabbing of a man in downtown san francisco. it happened about 7:30 last night at 6th and market. the victim a 24-year-old man was rushed to the hospital, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening. an oakland firefighter is in the hospital after fighting an early-morning fire. this one happened on -- on 66th avenue and macarthur. they say the call came in as a trash can fire. but when they arrived, a carport was on fire. one firefighter, again, was taken to the hospital. his injuries are not known right now. 8:05. supervisor david campo says some businesses, usually restaurants, are including a

surcharge on customers' bills that's supposed to help pay for the healthy san francisco program but instead the businesses are just pocketing the money. he says other businesses will create these accounts but are pretty tight when it comes to helping with healthcare. the city's director of housing opportunities wants to bring a free soul food truck to the tenderloin neighborhood i says the residents would staff the truck where many are struggling. >> we have to do the nuts and bolts work. >> i think this is a -- i think this is a new opportunity. >> deputies say helping the
